More about Roger's Values
Our quality of life has many aspects,
and includes our community of friendly, helpful neighbors, the natural
beauty, abundant healthy resources, and the economy that supports us all.
Due to population growth in recent years this quality of life has been
eroding, but I want to turn this around and enhance the things that make
our valley special. I will avoid extremes and work to find sensible solutions
to help guide our future changes. We must maintain and improve our public services and facilities. We need appropriate regulations that let everyone know what the rules are, and that make it easy to work with the County. Our lack of good regulations has caused the decline of our services and facilities, because uncontrolled growth always demands more in services than it pays in revenue. A fair and logical system of impact fees will help offset the demand on schools, fire departments, sheriff and roads. A strong set of subdivision regulations will require new development to install adequate facilities to serve its residents and minimize impacts on neighbors. We must help our farmers and ranchers. Even
though agricultural markets are down right now, the farmers and ranchers
of the Bitterroot are a major asset to the community. I will work to create
a variety of options that both protect a person's right to farm, and allow
the efficient sale of a portion of a person's land for high quality development.
These options must include the ability to sell the rights for that development
to others, allowing the owner to gain needed capital from their land AND
continue their agricultural operation on the remaining area. I promise open, honest, hard working County government. My
skills as a problem solver, facilitator, and technical writer, plus 28
years of experience as a Bitterroot business owner, landowner and consulting
engineer will help me find the balance between protecting what we value
and keeping our economy going. I will work hard to develop an acceptable
method of resolving community conflict, which can result from the changes
being forced upon us. You can count on my honesty, hard work and commitment.
I
believe in finding the common ground among the diverse As our problems in the County get bigger, it becomes more and more important to find our common ground. We have real problems to solve, and we must unite if we want to succeed. I am a good listener and a quick learner. I have the skills and determination to research an issue, and the courage to implement a fair and reasonable solution to a problem. |
